Review: Caliente Caribe, Puerto Plata, Dominican

Arrival:  Fly into either Puerto Plata (POP) or Santo Domingo (preferred) airport and are greeted by a driver to take you to the resort. It's about a 90-minute drive thru the country to the resort. Upon arrival, you are greeted with a delicious rum-punch drink and then escorted to your room or villa.  Inside your room, you have breathtaking views of the ocean (every room or villa is oceanfront), and you will find a welcome letter personally signed by the manager, Sinclair (he and Van, his bride to be, are so very nice).

Clientele:   Caliente Caribe has a VERY healthy mix of age ranges as well as body types so everyone is welcome and should feel very comfortable and relaxed in their setting.  There are no "perfect" people, everyone is perfect, which is such a welcome.  They welcome couples as well as singles, which is great.

Environment:  Caliente Caribe is a clothing optional resort. It is not a lifestyles resort and you will see no overt activity nor will you be approached or harassed by anyone at all.  Clothing is optional, nudity is not mandatory, it is up to you as to your comfort levels.

Weather: Average of about 85 degrees by day, and 78 degrees at night, with cool Caribbean breezes. Rained once in 5 days while I was there, for about 30 minutes.

Cuisine: There are three prepared meals each day, as well as late morning to late day snacks.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner are very nice, sit down, open air restaurant meals where you are given a menu with many choices, as well as low carb choices, and dinners are three course meals, served with wine or the drink of your pleasure. There are also snacks of fruits all afternoon at the bars.

There are two bars, one for each section; the "Seacliff" section, and the "Beach Villa" section.  Each is stand alone but open to everyone. There is also a wrap-around swim-up bar at the Seacliff section.  At the Beach section, you also have waiters walking the beach and pool area to serve you.

Entertainment: There is nightly entertainment provided at the stage on the Seacliff Level. This includes dancing, dance lessons, singers, bands, theme nights, etc.

Tours: There are several city tours available, as well as scuba and snorkeling (diving can be done nude at the dive site if you are so inclined).......snorkeling is also great, both right at the resort, and on a tour. There is so much history there as the DR was the first European settlement in the New World and the colonial district in the Capital of Santo Domingo has been preserved with perfection.

Beach: Caliente Caribe has two beaches to choose from.  Both have a few rocks as you enter the water, so water shoes are definitely needed, but then it smoothes out once you get just past that initial entry, and the water is clear and warm. There is also horseback riding along the beach.

Gift Shop: There is a small gift shop on the arrival or seacliff level with souvenirs, gorgeous artwork painted by local painters (they remove the frame from this artwork and roll it for you to take home so that it won't get damaged), as well as any needed things.

Money: Peso

Disco: There is a great disco on site, which they keep open always, however, the have the nightly band and entertainment out doors overlooking the ocean under the stars, so that's the preference.

Spa: They have a full service spa for hair, nails, massages, and anything else you might need.

Gym:  There is a full service, fully equipped gym on the Seacliff level, facing the ocean. This is well maintained with all new equipment, such as treadmills, free weights, rowing machine, stairmaster, Roman Chair, bowflex, and step equipment. Also, just walking the entire property is a great workout. VERY large property great for walking.  There is shuffleboard by the ocean, as well as two lighted tennis courts and water and beach volleyball, and kayaking. There are also extensive walking/joggling nature paths.

Accommodation: There are two sections; the Seacliff section, which is on the arrival level, and boasts hotel rooms, one bedroom apartments, and studio efficiencies.  The Beach Villa section, which is down at beach level, that boasts separate bedroom, full kitchen, full living room.  Both sections feature total wi-fi so that you can be online at any given time all day long.  Both are completely ocean front and have large terraces with patio furniture so that you can just sit and enjoy the views and the sounds of the waves crashing against the cliff.  I have given some more details below, on each section.

All Rooms feature all amenities:  Gorgeous bamboo sofa, coffee table, sitting chair, table and chairs, king bed (or double in some), double closet, 6-drawer dresser, safe, 3-foot mini-fridge, HUGE bathroom with extra vanity with stool, European shower, toiletries, satellite cable TV and a very large balcony or terrace with patio furniture.

Each section is also self-sufficient with their own pools and hot tubs and bars.

The Beach-Villa section has a volleyball pool, darts, huge beach bar under a massive palapa, a plunge pool and an infinity jacuzzi so that you feel like you are sitting right on the edge of the ocean.

Landscaping: Very lush, tropical landscaping. Huge palm trees and coconut trees all over the entire property. Also tropical flowers growing everywhere, thick soft grass, large paved walkways spanning the entire property.

SUMMARY: INCREDIBLE, ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!  There's so much more I could say, so if you have questions, please let me know.
